One of the mistakes that Web business owners often commit is that they spend too much time on the design of their website, and not enough time on the content. Keep in mind that the content of your website is more important than the design, which is why people who invest too much money on site designs primarily instead of focusing on its content will only end up wasting it since this will only bring in a few people to visit their website. Instead, try to invest in copywriting initially, and only spend money on the site design later on.

How true this is. Too many new webmasters or business owners who want to start a business online start a website and think that a pretty face will get more traffic to their website. It won’t.

It doesn’t matter how pretty your website is if you don’t get any traffic. You’re much better off putting the money you’d spend on a nice, sleek design and hiring a copywriter instead. If you can afford both a designer and a copywriter then by all means go all out, but if you can’t, the copywriter is more important.

One caveat: Not all copywriters are created equal. Hire a copywriter who knows and understands SEO. Preferably, you’ll hire a copywriter who has written successful Web copy and has made sales. You’ll also want someone who has achieved high rankings for their Web copy.

That said, you have a copywriter who knows SEO and can write killer sales copy, but you need a website with a cool looking design. What do you do? Well, you could get a template. You don’t want a template that uses frames and tables and won’t get crawled by the search engines. You want a Web design that is attractive as well as crawlable. That’s so important and you don’t want to forget it. The wrong Web design can kill you.
