Keyword Research: The Good, The Bad, The Downright Ugly
I’ve been a big fan of Search Engine Land for a long time. Well, they had a great post today on their blog about keyword research tools and I think you should read it. In short, they don’t recommend Yahoo’s Keyword Suggestion Tool (and I don’t either). It’s outdated and just plain garbage, which is sad because it used to be pretty reliable. It used to provide information from the previous month. Now, the latest information comes from January 2007. That just won’t do.
By contrast, Google AdWords’ tool is excellent (and Danny Sullivan agrees). He uses it and I use it too. I’d suggest you do as well.
In addition to that brilliant post on keyword research, Danny Sullivan and Search Engine Land has a useful page that offers other cool keyword research tools and I highly recommend that you check that out as well.
Still, no matter what anyone else tells you about keyword research, I agree with Danny that the best free tool to use for your keyword research is Google AdWords. You don’t even have to log in to your account to use it.
