Postscript from Barry: A Google spokesperson contacted me saying, “Google is continually testing ways of providing users with opportunities to access Google products and the blue box around the Bourne Ultimatum is an example of that.”

I found this interesting. I think we’ll see Google experimenting more and more with images in their ads and audio and video elements added to their advertising as well. Pay-per-click will become pay-per-action and every time a user watches the video, clicks on the image, or listens to the audio message in the ad there will be a fee paid by the advertiser. I see this happening more and more in the near future.

More and more webmasters are catching on to the fact that audio and video can be used to sell their products and services on their websites. This is a good thing. Imagine seeing an ad appear in a SERP at the top of your results. You can a video image and click on it. After watching a 10-second teaser you click on the ad and you are taken to the advertiser’s website. Upon reaching the website you see a little text followed by a video image and another paragraph of text. You know you are supposed to watch the video. It doesn’t cost you anything so you click and there before your very eyes is a 10-minute video. Entertained, you watch it to the end, thinking you are viewing a short story in moving images. At the end of the video is a call to action - “click here.” You do. After clicking the video screen where a cool little short story was told you are taken to another page on the same website where you confronted with more information about the product or service and a final sales call. You’ve just been sold.

This type of scenario will become more and more prevalent online in the next few years. It’s the sales process in action and it will be fully interactive. Just wait and see.
