NBC Is About To Make A Big Mistake With Social Media

(Source) It takes a lot of hard work to build a community around any aspect of social media. I’d rather see NBC pick one or two offerings and focus on making them a success, than putting it all out there and having their attention splintered.

The folks at NBC have the right idea, but they’re implementing in a very bad way. Let this be a lesson to anyone in business: Don’t try to do too much at one time, and for God’s sake, don’t try to please everyone. The next headline we’re apt to see about NBC is “Executive Fired: Social Networks Discontinued.”

When it comes to good ideas, too many can be as bad as not enough. Pick one or two things to focus on at a time and do them well. Then, after you’ve perfected your game in those areas you can try to add one or two more. Try to do everything at once and you’re sure not to do any of them well. I would have thought there would be enough historical examples of this that a company like NBC wouldn’t need a reminder. I guess not.
