Michelle, that's a common problem. SEO is good to learn, but the real SEO is content. Write your copy with your audience in mind. Do that and everything else will take care of itself - provided you stick to the list, of course. :-)

I've managed a lot of webmaster forums over the years. The one thing I always found is that many people continually tweak their websites over and over again trying to optimize it for the search engines. They spend all their time re-editing the website according to the latest search engine tips.

The advice I've always given is, build the website with seo in mind as you build it. Install a blog, an article directory, or something that will allow you to add new content often.

Then spend all of your time promoting the website rather than constantly rebuilding it.

If you just have to keep building, build more websites instead of constantly rebuilding the same old website.

The list in the post is good because it recommends promoting your website a lot.

People spend 80% of their budget on web design to have a pretty site, then try to squeeze by with 20% of their money toward getting traffic.

A pretty website that makes no money may as well be an ugly website. However, an ugly website that makes money gets more beautiful by the dollar.

Great post. Very funny stuff. Funny thing is it's really all old school, retro seo, not new.

People give old things new names but all of this except digg and social bookmarking has been around a long time.

don't need 'dofollow" tags. if you don't put "nofollow" in robots.txt then all links are followed and some search engines follow anyway ignoring the no follow tags.
