Yes, I agree. A blog can definitely keep you out of hot water, or at least help you wade through it successfully. But a blog can help you do so much more. Just a few of the benefits of blogging:
- Establishes you as an expert in your field
- Drives traffic to your website
- Allows you to have an ongoing communication with members of your target market
- Helps build link popularity and PageRank of your website (if done correctly)
- Promotes your brand
- Allows you to address industry changes quickly and in a way that incorporates the broadest possible appeal
- Allows you to have a mass communication device that is instantaneous and gives your audience as much control, through RSS, of receiving your message as you have of delivering
That last point may not seem like a benefit to you, but believe me, it is. When you respect your target audience enough to let them to choose to hear your message then you are more likely to get a good number of that audience volunteer to let you speak to them if you have a message worth hearing.
In a word, blogging is about quality content and quality conversations, not interrupting people at dinner.
