WebProNews, Is It Really The Only News There Is?

Warning: This is not an Search Engine Optimization blog post. It IS a WTF?
Admittedly, when news first broke of Microsoft’s offer to buy Yahoo!, it was interesting news. I wrote a blog post about it. I ate it up. I giggled. I snorted. I jumped for joy. I spat on the ground and clinched my fist. I raged. I ranted. I smiled. I chanted. And now I’m feeling like Dr Seuss. But I gather you get the point.
Now, here is it, days later and WebProNews is still writing stories about it. Damn near every story, it seems. Just look at the silly headlines:
- Assessing The Microsoft/Yahoo Aftershock
- The Microsoft-Yahoo Deal And Photos
- What Makes A Yahoo Acquisition Interesting For Microsoft
- What Is Microsoft Really Acquiring With Yahoo?
- Microsoft’s Earnings, Enough To Buy Yahoo
- Microsoft And Yahoo - An Upside Of Cultural Injection
- Microsoft, Show Me The Money
- Yahoo - Semel = Microsoft Takeover?
- Microsoft Offers To Yahoo Rebuffed Before
- Microsoft Not Down On Poor Yahoo Performance
- Expect Yahoo Shares To Rise On Microsoft Deal
- Microsoft Tells Yahoo About R&D Synergies
- Market Aspects Of Microsoft-Yahoo Furor
- Live: Microsoft Wants Yahoo
- Microsoft Conference Call On Yahoo Deal
All of these are stories that were published at WebProNews just in the last two days - in case you missed it, that’s AFTER the initial news broke of the Microsoft’s offer. You’d think, by these headlines, that there was nothing else to write about. Yes, I know, it’s exciting news (for someone), but whether the deal goes through or not, most of us are going to keep doing what we’ve been doing. Our businesses won’t change, our strategies might change a little, our attitudes about search will still be the same, and in the grand scheme of things the acquisition won’t really affect us all that much - most of us. So what’s the big deal?
News is news. I get it. But let’s move on to something else already. Doesn’t WebProNews have another dead horse to beat?

Hi Nick,
Very funny. Any ideas on other “dead horses” we should be writing about?
Thanks for reading!

Also a story about how the microsoft yahoo deal will affect global warming, the presidential race, and how rabbits might be affected by the merger.

Rich, glad you got a sense of humor. Let’s see … I’m kind of curious about a lot of things. Like, what’s Ask up to these days? How’s it going with natural language research? Any up-and-comers we should be aware of? Oh, and I hear that MySpace has a new developers platform - that sounds like it might be pretty exciting news. I did a search on the WebProNews website and found two stories on that in the last week.
The largest social networking website in the world offers developers access to its API and all we get is, “Hey, MySpace is offering up their API,” but a third place backward-running search engine offers to buy a competitor that is outrunning it despite a couple of trips and that gets more coverage than the Exxon Valdez. Journalism just isn’t what it used to be. But who am I? Just some SEO hack, I guess. ![]()

[...] I apologize to Rich Ord and his fabulous editorial crew for beating up on them so much this week, but I couldn’t help but notice that by this time on the same day that Microsoft offered to take Yahoo by force like a prison term lifer owns his new cell buddy, the prestigious news organization had written more stories on that one topic than on any other topic within the previous month. In case you’re wondering, that’s a lot of stories. [...]
