Search Engine Optimization For Yahoo! Mobile

Writing by Nick Stamoulis on Sunday, 6 of April , 2008 at 2:06 am

Search engine optimization for mobile phones is certainly going to be a growth area into the future. The one area that Google doesn’t dominate appears to be in the mobile search field. With Yahoo! now producing the most popular range mobile applications and with the upgrade of their OneSearch software to accept voice query software, chances are they will increase their share of mobile searches.

If your niche is in areas likely to be searched by mobile phone then you need to think seriously about your search engine optimization strategies. Certainly industries such as restaurants, theaters and perhaps video rentals should review their current strategies.

Search engine optimization has always has a strong Google skew although in recent times the recommendation has been for a more balanced approach. If you are in industries likely to be affected by mobile searches then it may be time to skew your search engine optimization strategies towards Yahoo!, at least when it comes to your mobile sites.

Yahoo!’s OneSearch upgrade was released at the recent CTIA Wireless trade show in Las Vegas and has been met with keen interest. It is estimated that revenue from mobile searches in the US alone could explode to more than $4 billion in the next three years - that would represent a huge increases in the number of searches undertaken.

It raises two key points. Whether or not your site is mobile compliant and whether or not your site’s search engine optimization strategies have taken this expected mobile explosion into consideration.

I now look back in interest at some of the new year predictions where ’search by mobile’ was, in many quarters, brushed aside as ‘not going to happen any time soon’. It will be interesting to see whether or not they jump on the search engine optimization strategies for mobile bandwagon.
