Search Engine Optimization And Indented Listings
Andy Beard wrote a great ‘how to’ article on Indented Listings using simple search engine optimization steps. The idea is fine and would sound attractive to most web owners. There is one caveat I make to that statement: if you are not on the first two pages of the SERP’s then this tactic will probably do little for you.
If you are ranking in the top ten for your keywords then a search engine optimization strategy such as this is ideal. While having the double listing is handy, what is more important is the white space that is created. Looking at the screen shot you can see how the indentation draws the eyes – even if you were ranked at three or four, chances are your results will be read first.
The steps themselves are really straight from any search engine optimization handbook and to steal Andy’s thunder:
- Get one page indexed and ranking
- Write a second post linking to the first (which will also then trackback to the second page)
- Use the same primary keyword in both posts
Pretty much as simple and straight forward as that. The hard part now is to get the first page indexed and ranking well. The rest will then follow. Simple search engine optimization steps that produce some clever and smart results.

If you notice in the video, Andy Jenkins gets double listing with related titles, so maybe for both armor and costumes.
The key is to focus on the terms that your stats tell you bring you revenue, not just traffic. I spend far less time aiming to do this for general topics that are not revenue centric.
