Search Engine Optimization For Home Businesses

Home businesses are often in a position where their income does not justify employing a search engine optimization consultant so they are left to the job themselves. Whilst the task may seem daunting, it doesn’t have to be. Following a few key points will make life a lot easier.
The first search engine optimization strategy to put in place is to run a blog. Use the blog as often as possible to talk about your business and your products/services. Submit your blog to as many directories as possible and where allowed, link back to both your blog and your website.
Fairly standard in search engine optimization programs now is the use of the social bookmarking and social networking sites. Here you can promote yourself, particularly if you have some expertise in a particular field, and over time promote you blog and websites. If done in a non pushy way, you will also be able to promote your products/services once you have established a positive reputation.
Blogs and social sites will help to create inbound links particulalry if your search engine optimization strategies have been sound. However there are some things you can do yourself. One option that is available in many areas are small advertising sites. These sites are small and often try to run as mini eBay type affairs. You can sometimes get away with listings on these sites where the listing includes within the body a link back to your site.
As with all search engine optimization programs, content is important along with keyword selection. For home businesses, they will find it almost impossible to rank for generic keywords. They will need to think right outside the square to find keywords that will rank, unfortunately these keywords also don’t appear at the top of query lists either. Some commonsense thinking needs to be applied however. You have a choice of getting 1% of 1000 queries - 10 hits, or 50% of 100 queries - 50 hits. I know which option I will select.
If your keyword selection is smart, you may find that over time the number of queries for that term will increase, and you will already be highly ranked for it. Clever search engine marketing is the act of trying to achieve high rankings for keywords that are distinctly possible, not aiming blindly for the impossible.
Running a home business is no different to any other web site that needs an SEO program. Analyze who you are and what keywords will work - and optimize them to hilt.
