Search Engine Optimization And CSS

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Most search engine optimization experts will tell you that CSS or style sheets are more important that for your web page design than any other coding issue. Apart from the use of flash, I agree totally. Flash should be avoided whenever possible.

CSS helps to separate the content of the website from the design. The use of tables tends to combine the two and can be quiet inflexible. Flash combines everything and is search engine optimization unfriendly. By separating content and design, you can make it easier for search engines to find and index your content. CSS also involves less code and generates smaller file sizes; a real benefit to search engine spiders.

CSS also allows the designer to place the most important content at the top of the code regardless of where that text appears on the screen. Text at the top of the code tends to carry more weight in searches and is also found faster by search engine spiders. This can be very important when it comes to search engine optimization strategies.

When having a website designed you should always have these points in mind. Using CSS provides a strong foundation for search engine optimization efforts. Since search engine optimization is an ongoing process that includes link building and continued development of quality content, CSS enables a quick update and an ordered use of functions such as H1 and H2 etc. Use CSS and your life will be so much easier.
