Search Engine Optimization Time Wasters
Search engine optimization is an inexact science and can be time consuming and frustrating. The last last thing you need to be doing is wasting your time and resources in areas that don’t need optimizing.
Gaining backlinks can be hard enough so when you do you need to be sure that those links boost the rankings of pages that need it. The following pages do not need any search engine optimization strategies, apart from using ‘nofollow’ in any of the links that point to them.
About Me – your ‘About Me’ page generally doesn’t need any search engine optimization strategies applied to it unless it is an integral part of your site. If it is – perhaps you need to rethink how you are using it.
Contact Us – these pages are not pages that you necessarily want found in the search results – they are pages that visitors may go to once they have arrived on your site.
Privacy Pages – definitely does not need to appear in the search results therefore does not need indexing.
Disclosure Page – likewise does not need to be indexed.
Sitemap – Your sitemap is generally not a page that you would have indexed or searched for.
If you leave these pages out of your search engine optimization strategies you can concentrate on the pages that do need optimizing. Although I say they do not need optimizing, you do need to consider nofollow and noindex tags for them to ensure they are not accidentally indexed by any of the spiders.
SEO can be difficult enough at the best of time. Don’t waste your time or resources on parts of your website that don’t require indexing – concentrate on areas that do need work like your landing pages.
