Code Clean Up: What Can You Do?

There are types of code that just eat up your code-to-text ratio. Javascript comes to mind. You work hard and built a really cool website with lots of bells and whistles. The problem is the code is enormous and your site loads too slow. What should you do?

One thing you can do with excessive code is to include it in an external file and reference the file in your html document. When you do that, you are essentially telling your site visitors’ web browsers to access the information when they need it. The result is a faster load time and less code on your pages, which means the search engines can filter through the information you want them to filter through more easily and rank your web pages better for your key terms.

So the benefit to cleaning up your code is dual – you get a faster load time and you can achieve better search engine rankings.
