Noresults Pages: Google Wants Your Help

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

A while back Matt Cutts over at Google had asked for feedback on what his web spam team could be doing better. A lot of people responded and it seems that the biggest complaint was noresults pages. So Matt is asking for your help again. In his blog post Matt tells you specifically how to report noresults pages that you receive. But he doesn't really tell you why other than it's a "bad user experience." If you're looking for something a little more than that, here are some reasons why noresults pages are so bad and why you might want to report them Google: Many review sites, sites that specialize in product reviews, are very well optimized for the word "review" CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Brick Marketing – Search Engine Marketing Company Video

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

As most of you (our loyal readers) know, I don’t post self promotional blog posts that often as I really feel the Search Engine Optimization Journal should remain a free resource of great information, without fluff, clutter or self promotion. However, from time to time (less than .05% of the time!) I feel the need to promote some aspect about my search engine marketing company, Brick Marketing. The following is a very cool self promotional video that we have created for Brick Marketing, I hope you enjoy CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Online Marketing: Are You Wasting Your Marketing Budget?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

By Jori Ford (www.chicagoseopro.com), Chicago SEO Strategist/Consultant Where Are You Spending Your Marketing Dollars? The question that comes to mind for many business owners in 2009 is whether or not to cut their advertising and marketing budget. Typically, in the past years, this is what top CFOs in the country recommended in order for a business to survive, the “rough times” ahead. In 2009 however, cutting that marketing budget could mean the end of your business. Savvy business owners and executives will shift the budget to a place where metrics are tracked for pennies on the dollar, conversions are capable of being comprehensively analyzed, and market visibility tends to be quadrupled. The best part is the ROI is considerably higher because the ability to CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

President Obama And The Era Of Responsibility

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

President Barack Obama has been sworn in and the era of responsibility has begun. Does that include responsible search engine optimization? We hope so. While Obama may not himself be overly concerned with SEO, I think that he appreciates the power of the Internet as a whole. After all, he used it successfully to reach a part of his support base in both the general election and for his bid as Democratic nominee. This clearly was the year for political Internet marketing and that includes search engine optimization. His insistence that we have entered into an era of responsibility does beg the question, what about SEO? So I'll ask: What about responsible SEM? What is that exactly? Responsible SEO is first and foremost an ethical and honest optimization. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Should You Use “Click Here” As Anchor Text?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Google "Click Here" and right at the number 1 spot you'll find the pages for the Adobe Reader download. Go the page and the words "click here" are nowhere to be found. How is that possible? It's called anchor text. Thousands of websites link to that page using the anchor text phrase "click here". That anchor text has caused the Adobe download page to rank exceptionally well for that phrase. But how many people actually search for the phrase "click here" and how many do so looking for Adobe Reader? My guess is not that many. This little exercise should illustrate the power and importance of inbound link anchor text. That's why we've devoted so much time to the CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Happy MLK Day From SEOJ

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Everywhere I look today I see two things: Barack Obama and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It truly is a day of rejoicing and celebration. Tomorrow, the nation will celebrate a historic event in the first black man taking the highest office in the land. The cool thing about search engine optimization is that it doesn't discriminate. We may have a history of discrimination in the U.S. but the search engines have no such history. Good optimization works for one man as well as it does for another man without consideration for race, creed, religion, nationality, gender, sexual identification, or country of national origin. If you do it right then the system works for you. If you fail, you fail according to your own shortcomings. Is that CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Why Deep Linking Is Better Than Home Page Linking

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Everyone knows you have a home page. They can find it easily. But deep links are a lot more productive and effective in link building than home page links for a few reasons: You can target specific kewyord phrases instead of the broad sitewide term It is easier to push your internal pages up in the site rankings with long-tail keyword phrases Links to multiple pages looks more natural than a bunch of links to your home page Visitors can find your home page's URL by typing it into their browser windows but they'll have a more difficult time remembering your page permalinks for internal pages Internal pages typically cover a more specific topic that is relevant to a user's needs When you start your link building campaign as part of CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
