MSN Live Image Search Beats Google

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

I found something that MSN Live beats Google at. It's Image Search. If you'll watch this video by Stefan Weitz of the MSN Live Search team, you'll see the cool features offered by MSN Live on its Image Search feature. Stefan isn't Matt Cutts and there are some weaknesses in the video presentation, but it does do a decent job of highlighting some of the cool features of MSN Live's Image Search, such as: Search by image size Aspect Ratio Image Style (photograph or illustration) Color or black and white Face shots, head and shoulder, or other image effects I think this is getting closer to the way that searching for images should be done. Do Outbound Links Hurt Your Rankings?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

One question that comes up every now and then about outbound links is, "Do they hurt your rankings?" The question is based on the precept that linking is a zero-sum game. That is, if you have 1,000 inbound links and 1,000 outbound links then they'll cancel each other out. That's not true at all. If it were true then it would seem to reason that 2,000 outbound links versus 1,000 inbound links would hurt your search engine optimization and provide you with negative benefits. I don't think it's true at all. Outbound links provide only one negative effect, that I'm aware of. I'm talking about healthy linking here, not linking out to bad neighborhoods and bad sites. If you link to good neighborhoods and good sites then CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Canonical Link Tag Wins The Day

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

The latest and greatest from the search engines - besides the fact that they've all put their heads together and agreed on one common tactic - is that canonical link tags are a necessity and they've settled on one protocol to help "clean up the Web." Matt Cutts explains it here. In a nutshell, you can now add the following syntax to your meta tags: link rel="canonical" href="http://www.exampleurl.com/yepthisistheone.html" What that will do is notify the search engines that a particular link URL is the correct URL to index and the tag comes in really handy when you have more than one page URL with the same content. The search engines will index the URL that you want indexed and it's a way that CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

If you run a small business and you are contemplating whether or not to build a website and make the transition to online marketing, maybe you should listen to this: (Source) Webvisible said this means that while searchers don’t always find the specific business (no online advertising/no website, etc.), they may choose to contact a similar business with a stronger online presence. If only 44% of small businesses have a website then you're competition online is much smaller than it is off line. Even of those businesses that do have an online presence, most of them CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Build Links With Your Affiliate Program

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

One of the most effective link building strategies is a good solid affiliate program. When you have an affiliate program in place that sells your product or service well and pays good commissions then you'll get more affiliates to sign up. More affiliates signing up for your affiliate program means more inbound links. Think about it. Every time one of your affiliates links back to your website, that's another inbound link. Those links are usually relevant and often are high authority. If a good number of your affiliates are established websites with solid reputations then you'll have high authority relevant links multiplying again and again, delivering new traffic to your website and providing valuable inbound links. These links help you in a number of ways and often CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
