How To Rank Better By Answering Questions Better

Chris Crum at WebProNews is suggesting that you use your FAQ page to target user queries posed as questions so that you can rank your website better. Not a bad idea, but I’ve got a better one.
The entire conversation centers around a new trend in search. Searchers are starting to use long search phrases and expecting the search engines to know the meaning of their query rather than simply understanding the words in the search query. It’s a great dream, but we’re not there yet. Until semantic search – aka artificial intelligence – becomes a complete reality, we’re stuck with keywords. So why not turn every page of your website into a FAQ?
No, I’m not suggesting that all of your page titles should be FAQ or “frequently asked questions”. Nor should your headlines all be some derivative of FAQ. But you can use your web pages to answer one specific question.
The first step is to ask what questions searchers would be seeking answers for related to your niche. Then, you simply set out to answer that question on one page of your website. Your page could be optimized for the search enginges for the specific search query that is the most popular – if you know what that is. Do the proper keyword research and you can build a dynamite website that answers searchers’ questions. That’s what search engine optimization is all about, isn’t it?

This is a practice that is used with some success already. Basically, say you run a computer repair company, and you write and article on replacing a video card. Something like “How can I replace my video card?” would probably be a better title tag to use than “video card replacement”
