SEO For Google Is About To Change Forever

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

One of the things that has made SEO for Google what it is is the limitation on the snippet within Google SERPs. Until now Google has limited those snippets to 160 characters. The snippet is usually taken from the meta description on web pages. But if Google starts using longer snippets as this article says it will then webmasters will begin to write longer meta descriptions. That will certainly change how search engine optimization is conducted.

Since many webmasters do not even bother optimizing their web pages for other search engines, those who focus entirely on Google will see the longer snippets as an opportunity to lengthen their meta descriptions and possibly slip in another keyword or related keyword. But it remains to be seen exactly how Google will use that longer snippet to reward or penalize webmasters who use it as an opportunity.

Will an extra keyword in the meta description be deemed spam? Will a related keyword be more favorable? Will webmasters be discouraged from putting keywords in the meta description altogether?

Only Google can answer those questions and you can bet they won’t answer them directly. It’s just a matter of time before someone conducts and experiment and reports on it.

Learning the key phrases and optimizers of Google and all the other search engines has been an experience. The experience is either glorified or doomed with each change, but it’s still fun to experiment and make the next change work.

    Thanks for this heads up!
