What The Difference Between SEO And Marketing?

Are SEO and marketing the same, or is there a vast difference? In today’s online operating climate, one might be tempted to say that SEO is marketing. One might be tempted to say they are synonymous.
But that wouldn’t be quite correct…

Search engine optimization, in its best form, entails various aspects of online marketing, but it would be a mistake to say that SEO is 100% marketing. Technical on site optimization could just be a series of keyword-laced sentences and paragraphs, or what some people might call spam. One could just write bland content that is highly optimized in order to attract spiders and robots, but such text generally has no value to readers. And if it has no value to readers it isn’t marketing. The best long term optimization (on site and link building), however, is search engine and web marketing.
The reason we make these distinctions is because every company doing business on the Web wants a marketing plan. Your marketing plan should include a long term optimization program. It should not put all of your internet marketing eggs in one basket, but it should include SEO alongside other Internet marketing strategies. Please don’t confuse SEO and marketing. They aren’t the same but do fit in together very nicely!

Many people think that this is the same, but if you ask me I think it is totally different.
