Do You Blog Often Enough?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Once a month? (Source) Currently, 27.9 million US Internet users have a blog they update at least once per month, and they represent 14% of the Internet population. By 2013, 37.6 million users will update their blogs at least monthly. If you're updating your blog monthly it isn't enough. Consider this: Each blog post is a separate web page that can obtain its own individual search engine rankings for the keyword(s) around which it is optimized and/or content contained within the blog post. If you write one blog post per month you are only putting 12 new pages on your website each year. Update your blog every day and that's 365 new web pages each year. Can A 301 Redirect Save Your Site’s Bad Reputation?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

If you have a website that has been penalized for selling or buying links, can you buy a second domain name and redirect the first site to it so that you start fresh again with a new reputation? No, I don't think you can. 301 redirects typically pass along the reputation of the old website or web page so that the page being redirected to inherits that reputation. Let's say you've got site A that has 100,000 links pointing to it. They are all good links. If you redirect site A to site B then most of those 100,000 links will be credited to site B for link popularity purposes. Most, but probably not all. On the other hand, let's say you've 50,000 inbound links and CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Should You Build Links Via Social Bookmarking?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Social bookmarking has grown in popularity in the last couple of years. I've noticed that there are two minds concerning how social bookmarking sites are used. On the one hand, social media marketers promote the social sites as relationship-building tools and tend to discourage their use for link building. Search engine optimization experts, particularly traditional and technical SEOs, tend to emphasize the link building aspect of social bookmarking. With sites like this promoting the link building aspect of social bookmarking, it's difficult to just ignore the benefits the temptation offers. The fact is, social bookmarking, if done the right way, can be useful in building links to a website and if you have a brand new website it can prove to be more CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Can You Combine Anchor Text And A Call To Action?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Not only can you, but you should. The best kind of link you can have on your website is one that actually gets clicked through. Anchor text is nice and yes it has it's benefits, but your links aren't getting clicked then they are just there to look pretty. Pretty doesn't make money. Ideally, you want your links to pass anchor text juice, but you also want them to entice people to click on them. To get that click, though, you have to have a strong call to action. It's hard to create a link that both uses good anchor text and serves as a strong call to action. But it can be done. Here are some things to think about when deciding how to create CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Did You Know Google Ignores Your Description?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Google has several ways of choosing what snippet it will use in search results. Quite often it will take your Meta Tag Description and use it verbatim. There are times when Google will use descriptions from DMOZ, BOTW, or other Web directories. This happens often when a webmaster doesn't have a Description, but there are times when Google decides that the description in a directory is better. Recently, I discovered that Google is using text from a web page to use as a SERP snippet even if there is already a well-written and optimized Description. The question is, when does Google decide to use your Description and when does it decide to use text from your web page? I think Google probably has its algorithm set CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Can AdSense Help You Optimize Your Website?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

One of the benefits to using AdSense on your website, besides the monetization potential, is its unique way of helping you to optimize your website. So AdSense is all about monetization and optimization. This is particularly true since Google just rolled out its new advertising policy, called interest-based advertising. So what is interest-based advertising? Glad you asked. Google has started to collect information on sites that users visit and drops cookies on their computers to get a better understanding of the types of sites each user likes to visit. Users can opt out of this program, but those who do not are telling Google what types of sites they like to visit. No other information identifying the individual is collected. The cookie simply identifies the computer CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

The Split Keyword Phrase Works Like A Charm

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Too many new search engine optimization consultants and Internet marketers get it in their minds that every instance of a keyword phrase must be exact. So when they write keyword-rich content it is often choppy prose and not very easy to read. It's reader un-friendly. Here's a little tip to help you in your optimization efforts. Instead of using the exact keyword phrase every time you insert it into your content, split the phrase up by inserting other words between them. Examples: Keyword phrase = "blue mechanical widget" becomes "blue widget with mechanical ..." Keyword phrase = "desert island" becomes "deserted on an island" Keyword phrase = "midget wrestling" becomes "she's a midget who started wrestling" Notice that in the desert island example I also slightly altered one of the CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
