Using Google Analytics To Track Hourly Statistics
Almost one month ago Google Analytics announced that hourly tracking was possible. This is a huge move, especially for TV advertisers. Let's say that you have a new TV ad campaign starting next week. You target your advertising to three separate geographical areas, but you decide to run the same TV commercial in all areas and at different times of the day. Hourly tracking allows you to see which ad is most effective. If you see any traffic spikes directly after your ad runs in any of those three markets then you can know whether those TV ads are working or not. I think it would be nice to have this tool for tracking radio ads and normal web traffic as well. There CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

How Google.com Search Referrals Are Changing
If you use Google Analytics then this won't affect you, but Google.com is starting to use a different URL to report referrals from its search engine. If you are using a third-party analytics software or developing your own then this information is pertinent. Be on the look out! You can read the full story on the Google Analytics Blog, but in essence the change goes like this: Old Reporting - http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=flowers&btnG=Google+Search New Reporting - http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=7&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.example.com%2Fmypage.htm&ei=0SjdSa-1N5O8M_qW8dQN&rct=j&q=flowers&usg=AFQjCNHJXSUh7Vw7oubPaO3tZOzz-F-u_w&sig2=X8uCFh6IoPtnwmvGMULQfw See the difference? I mean, besides the new URL being longer? The real significant difference is what follows immediately after .com. The old way of reporting the referral was to append /search? at the end of the Google domain name. Now, Google will begin using /url? instead. Why the change? I don't CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
The FTC Wants To Keep Bloggers Honest
Here's a potential time bomb of legislation that could have search engine optimization side effects. The FTC is considering regulating bloggers and social media marketers? And, by virtue of association, SEOs. The obvious question here is, What if a false statement achieves high rankings in the search engines? If the FTC oversees bloggers and social media marketers for the purpose of ensuring that they don't make false or misleading comments about the products they are promoting then that could have some detrimental effects on SEO. After all, social media marketers and bloggers use SEO to promote their web properties. Will this then lead to the FTC regulating SEO? I like what Les (quoted by WebProNews) has to say: The next question is what will the FTC CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
Why Long Tail Keywords Pay Quicker
Aaron Wall hit a long tail home run with this little paragraph in a big blog post on Seth Godin and search engine optimization: There is little point in trying to rank for a big money keyword right out of the gate. Smart SEOs generally insist on ensuring you use relevant keyword modifiers and alternative word forms. Why? Longtail keywords have less competition, are easier to rank for, rank quicker, and are more likely to convert (since they are more targeted). Most of us know by now that long tail keywords perform better for new websites because it's too difficult to rank for the big keywords right out of the starting gate. Instead of going for the major phrases that everyone else in your niche is going CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
