Why Using Separate Web Hosts May Be A Good Idea

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

If you manage multiple websites you probably want to host them at different hosting companies. The reason is because you can get more mileage out of cross-linking them. This is especialy true if they serve the same niche, but even if they don't serve the same niche you can still cross-link them and get more out of your links. The search engines, especially Google, recognize that sites existing on the same IP block are related, at least to a certain degree. Even if the sites on the same IP block are not related in subject matter or ownership, the search engines may treat them like they are and ignore links from them. There is an assumption that if two sites are on the same IP block CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Using PPC For Image Optimization

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

From the Google Analytics Blog: Here's an example: You're selling multiple kinds of shoes, each with a different landing page. You upload images of 4 different shoes to a rich media template, and define a unique destination URL for each, adding Analytics parameters. You run your ad on the Google content network and using Google Analytics, you see that Shoe 3 was the most clicked. You can now alter your creatives for other display ads to focus more on Shoe 3. Your click through rates for your ads increase, and your costs per conversion decrease. If this were your website wouldn't you want to know that your search engine optimization was just as effective as your pay per click optimization? Well, you can. You CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Alexa Has Updated Its Website, But Is It Any More Relevant?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

In the early days of the Internet a website allowing Internet users an opportunity to check out websites to see if they were trustworthy got its start and carved out a niche for itself. That website was Alexa. Over time, Alexa improved its offerings and quickly become the site to go to in order to determine site trustworthiness. Alexa was truly the first website of any note that could be relied upon for objective information. It wasn't perfect, but it was the best available. Then, savvy webmasters stopped relying on it. But recent upgrades may make Alexa relevant again. And I'm not the only one who thinks so. Andy Beal said the same thing this morning. I like a lot of CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Local SEO Just Got Easier

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

An interesting article in WebProNews illustrates just how easy local SEO is now. Is this the way Google is going to start handling all queries now? I performed my own search at Google for the following search terms: Chiropractor Dentist Auto mechanic Internet marketing In all except the last case, Google returned local results. I did not have to search for local, Google returned it automatically. I think this is a great trend and it illustrates a very important concept - that Google knows, based on your IP address, where you are geographically. That's very important for search engine optimization experts to know. If you are building a local business in certain niches then it is important to submit your website to Google Maps. Case Study On Search Engine Rankings: This Is No Joke!

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Perform a search for "april fools jokes" and you'll find this site - April Fools On The Web - sitting at position 8. It's exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to see what April Fools jokes were done online this year and this site tells it, plus I got an extra bonus: All the jokes online since 2004. I doubt, however, that it's exhaustive. But I got to wondering why this site didn't come up No. 1 for my search. It has two of the three words in my search query in the URL, though only one of the top 10 in Google had the exact phrase as I entered it into the search box. Any idea where that one sat? What Is Linkbait?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Are you a linkbaiter? Should you be? Linkbait is an attempt to build content on your website blog, forum, or other Internet property for the sole purpose of attracting links as part of a link building and search engine optimization program. It's not something you do by accident. You set a plan, build your "bait" and wait for the links. Does it work? Should you do it? First, yes, it does work - if you do it correctly. Many a would-be linkbaiter has tried to build linkbait and failed. Just putting something on your website that you think is cool is no guarantee that you'll attract the links. But if you do put something on your website that a lot of other webmasters would like then it CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
