Local Search Can Optimize Your Local Shop

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

MSN just updated its MSN City Guides. It’s a good thing because there haven’t been too many new developments in local search recently. The look is actually quite nice. You can see the new site here.

While I wouldn’t recommend stopping your local search campaign with MSN City Guides, it is a good place to start. You’ll want to supplement your listing in this guide with Google and Yahoo! Maps listings as well. And I’m glad to see that MSN is actually improving itself. This could be the reason that MSN has been gaining share while Yahoo! has been losing it.

Local search engine optimization and local search engine marketing is an area that will be growing soon. And I see that all the search engines and their local search tools will be big players in this space. Not just Google. Also, I see third-party sites like Superpages and City Search maintaining and leading the way. If you run a local business of any kind you’ll be doing yourself a favor to list it with all the search engines and all the third-party local search guides that you can find.

Looks much improved. Maps and local searches like this and Google maps do actually help with the listings and like you say really boost local searches.

  • @Claire – It is amazing sometimes how people don’t realize how important these local search listings really are!
