Why Autorun Videos Will Kill Your Trust Factor

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

The most important thing about doing business online isn’t search engine optimziation or social media marketing. It’s building trust. In fact, no matter how good you are at marketing through search engines or social media sites, if you can’t make your site visitors trust you then they won’t do business with you. But there are some things you can do that will drive your visitors away and kill any chances you have of earning their trust. One of those is autorun videos.

An autorun video is a video that runs when a visitor lands on a web page. The visitor has no choice. They must either watch the video or leave. Guess what? A lot of them are going to leave.

The reason is simple. People want a choice. They may not be ready to watch your video. No matter how good it is, if you ram it down people’s throats they will resent you for it. And that’s why autorun videos are no good. But if that isn’t enough, there are two other reasons why you don’t want to run autorun videos:

  • Page load time
  • Terrible SEO
  • Visitor Trust Factor

These are the top 3 reasons not to run autorun videos. They slow down your load time, which affects your trust rank. They water down your SEO since you can’t directly optimize video content. And visitors hate them.

Don’t do anything that will annoy your visitors. And if you do decide to annoy your visitors with autorun video, recognize that you are killing your site’s SEO as well. Double whammy.
