We have found that displaying relvant pages has worked best as it suits the topic of the user better than showing just our most popular pages.

This is a helpful idea. Our web site has more than 60,000 pages due to the nature of our business, and I’ve had a few comments recently that it is difficult for new visitors to find what they are looking for. We often take it for granted that others know the business as well as we do – and that’s a mistake.
