Is Yahoo! Answers Really An SEO Tool?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

You don't have to go far online to find someone touting Yahoo! Answers as the best search engine optimization tool in the world. OK, that may be overstating it. But you do hear about Yahoo! Answers being a great source of traffic for your website. And I'd have to agree. There are two ways to see Yahoo! Answers. First, as a way to meet really cool people who need your expertise and as a way to build back links to your website. While the latter may hold some value, it is the former that has the most potential for developing your online reputation and increasing your business. You have to remember to think outside the box when it comes to search engine optimization. When you get to CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Talking To Robots, Giving Them Direction

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Did you know you can direct robots to crawl certain pages on your website or to avoid certain pages altogether? It's true. You can talk to the search engine robots directly from a document called robots.txt. This can drastically help you with your search engine optimization efforts. It's easy to create a robots.txt document. You can do it any text editor such as Notepad or Apple TextEdit. Generally, one robots.txt file can be used for your entire site, however, if you have secure pages on your website then you'll have to have a separate one for those areas. Upload the file to the root directory on your server and from there it will control your own site. So what should go into your robots.txt file? Any instructions to CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

3 Important On Site SEO Areas

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

When you are ready to optimize your website - I mean, after you've rewritten your content 45 times and re-optimized it twice for each of those keywords (sense the sarcasm?) - here are three really quick and easy ways to add some high value on site optimization to each of your pages. Each is one line of code, but that one line of code can make a world of difference on every page. One thing to note, is these are 3 of the top areas besides your content, there are many other areas as well but that is for another post. Title Tag - Almost everyone who understands SEO agrees that the Title Tag is one of the most important elements on any web CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Meet The New Yahoo! Home Page

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Same as the old Yahoo! Home Page? Yes, Yahoo! has redesigned its home page. That's it. Redesigned. Not overhauled. Not rethunk. Redesigned. Nothing more. So what's so different? Not much. The focus is still on small business and Yahoo! features. However, there are the additional elements of eBay, MySpace, and Facebook in the menu bar. So that's something. But not much. The big and most noticeable difference between the new and old Yahoo! home page is the header area with the Yahoo! logo and search bar. No more red. Lots more purple. Frankly, I like it. The Yahoo! logo is left of the search bar now, not on top, and it actually makes me want to search. But that doesn't mean that Yahoo! focus is on search. It CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Write Your Content for Humans NOT SEO

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Brendan Regan at FutureNow made a repeatable observation. The we-we tool Brendan mentions is new to me, but I think it has some value. If anything, it should teach new copywriters that search engine optimization isn't the world. It's only a small part of the picture when it comes to writing website content. It's a necessary part, but you can kill your prospects for success if you focus too hard or too heavy on the right keywords. When writing content for your website, it's important to write with your user in mind. SEO can only take you so far. It won't sell your services for you. I don't mean to cast it in terms of sales copy vs. optimization. That's not really a proper characterization CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

What Is Your Competition Up To?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Do you know what your competition is doing online? If not then you should probably do some competitive analysis. And there's more to analyzing your competition than just clicking on "View Source". Social Conversations Can Lead To SEO Opportunities

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

One thing that is often overlooked by search engine optimization experts when putting together a strategy for SEO is what is being talked about in social media. A lot of times, social media conversations can be a clue to what is hot right now or what might be hot tomorrow or next week (or next month). Of course, there are a few tools that can help you measure the social media conversation. Here are a few social media related tools that I recommend: Twitter Trends - Twitter is hot, but it's not just about what's going on right now and who's talking to whom. Twitter Trends can tell you what's rising and what's falling. If you see a topic rise to No. 1 fast then fall CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
