Cyxymu Attack – Any SEO Impact?
If you’ve been following the news on the Twitter denial of service attack then you are likely aware that it wasn’t just Twitter that was the target. Facebook, LiveJournal, and other social networks were affected too. The reason, says a Russian blogger, is because the Kremlin wanted to shut him up.
It does make sense that only someone with a huge amount of resources could accomplish such a feat, but the amazing thing is that Facebook, LiveJournal, and Google’s Blogger were all able to ward off the attacks. Only Twitter suffered any real damage. Is that surprising?

It really isn’t. Twitter still has no monetization plan, therefore no real way to improve its technology to ward off such attacks. That could mean that the popular microblogging service could be the target of another attack if they aren’t able to upgrade their server security. If Twitter sustains long term attacks on its servers, and they could get even worse if the culprits aren’t stopped and decide to do this again, then Twitterers could see the service get locked up for days and shut out of their accounts for the entire duration. How would that affect their search engine optimization efforts?.
Long term, it wouldn’t affect it at all. But if Twitter is down long enough, folks with links in their bio could see a small decline in link popularity. But we hope it doesn’t happen again.
