Can Affiliate Marketers Use SEO?

Trick question. Not only CAN affiliate marketers effectively use search engine optimization, but they should. Anyone doing business online should become familiar with SEO and learn how to drive traffic through various search engine marketing and social media marketing channels. Or hook up with someone who does.

SEO is a skill that is still fairly young, but it’s useful for any type of business. Affiliate marketers can make use of SEO because their job is to sell someone else’s products or services. The key to good affiliate marketing SEO is to learn the most effective keywords for the product, or products, that you promote and to drive traffic to the affiliate merchant’s website using those keywords. Beyond that, the tools you can use to accomplish the end goal can be a great aid.

I’d recommend the following:

  • A good keyword research tool
  • A blog
  • An analytics program that will track special URLs or allow you to track multiple URL identifiers
  • Banners and other advertising graphics (some affiliate programs offer these, others don’t so you might have to create your own)
  • Landing pages
  • Sales letter templates
  • Autoresponders
  • E-mail marketing templates and helps
  • Alternatively, you might need a ghostwriter unless you can write your own content

Affiliate marketers can make a lot of money if they are good at two things: Selling and SEO. If you are not so good at either one of these then I would not recommend becoming an affiliate marketer. SEO is as essential as sales ability. Otherwise, how are going to drive traffic to your websites and those of your affiliate partners? If you don’t have a tremendous amount of media to invest in targeted pay per click advertising, then SEO is the way to go…
