How Long Does It Take To Hit Page 1?
Inevitably, people will often ask how long it takes to reach page 1 for their important keywords. I'll have to defer to the now cliche, "It depends". There is no definitive answer to this question. I've seen websites rank for their important keywords within a couple of weeks and I've seen it take up to a couple of years. There are several factors that influence whether a website reaches significant rankings for its keywords, among them: Are you using a static website or a blog? How aggressive is your link building? How many keywords are you targeting at one time? How embedded is the competition at the top of the ranking chart? How much competition do you have to content with? How well is the competition staying on top of its own CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
Should You Use Acronyms In Your Content?
Here's a good discussion on the use of jargon and acronyms in marketing content. The discussion is just as relevant for search engine optimization efforts, maybe more so. After all, with good quality content you are not just selling, your are selling and optimizing. And if you are using acronyms for your optimization efforts it means that you expect searchers to perform search queries for those acronyms at the search engines. Will they? If they do, will they search for the acronym more often than the term it represents? I like Grok's blog post because it shows a little bit of both sides of the argument. On the one hand, jargon (or acronyms) can be a turn-off. On the other hand, it can be CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
SEM and SEO Trump Social Media Marketing
A new study reveals that even though 66% of marketers are using social media marketing and viral video more, they are still seeing better results from traditional Internet marketing and search engine optimization strategies that have been tried and tested over time, including: Search engine marketing (SEM) (65%) Own website (59%) Search engine optimization (SEO) (55%) E-mail marketing (45%) This should come as no surprise to those in the industry. It may surprise you if you don't do this everyday. But search engine marketing and search engine optimization (on your own website) are the two most effective online marketing channels and always have been. E-mail marketing is a close third and it lags behind mostly because so much of it is spammy noise now. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
Search Engine Specialization – Are We There Yet?
Marketing Pilgrim reports that Bing is still increasing its popularity. The interesting part here is that Bing is seeing success in specific industries: Travel Shopping Finance Who knows how they chose these industries to target, but if we start to see that one of the search engines is dominant in particular industries while lagging in others, will we then see other search engines follow suit and target industries that aren't represented? Will one search engine specialize in real estate information while another specializes in arts and entertainment? I think this is a good, actually. Then it won't be a matter of who has the greatest market share overall, but who can capture a percentage of market share for each niche. One search engine may do extremely well CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Have Some Google Caffeine
Google is giving a sneak preview of its future search engine. That's nice. Here's how they explain what they've done: For the last several months, a large team of Googlers has been working on a secret project: a next-generation architecture for Google's web search. It's the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions. The new infrastructure sits "under the hood" of Google's search engine, which means that most users won't notice a difference in search results. But web developers and power searchers might notice a few differences, so we're opening up a web developer preview to collect feedback. I'm with Andy Beal of Marketing Pilgrim. A Phone Number Helps Build Trust
When building your website you might be tempted to include your phone number in various places on your website. That's a good way to build trust in your site visitors. After all, if they see that a real person is available to speak to them at a moment's notice they might be more likely to do business with you. But does a phone number help with your search engine optimization efforts? It can, actually. A phone number can be a clue to your geographic location. That will help with local search. But if your target is international in scope then that won't be much help at all. Even still, it can't hurt. I'd recommend putting your phone number in your Title and Description meta tags, if possible. That CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
