Yahoo Is Selling Small Business Division
Yahoo! could soon be selling off a very important asset – the small business hosting aspect of its business. I see this as a very sad moment for Yahoo! and the web. I see it as an opportunity for the world’s small businesses. Let me explain.
You see, the small business segment is one of the fastest growing segments of search engine marketing. Large businesses and megacorporations are still reluctant to do much more than put up a website that would have looked a little dorky by 1999 standards. But small business entrepreneurs are really the ones driving growth on the Internet. It is the small business people who are going online who are excited about unique content, video marketing, mobile marketing, social media, and the rest of the future growth of online marketing. The big guys are just dragging along, mostly with trepidation.
Yes, Yahoo! had a great opportunity. Yes, they blew it. Yes, they’re still blowing it. So I say sell the Yahoo! Business Center and let someone else turn it into a profitable enterprise. This could be an opportunity for small businesses to get their specialized tools – tools that can help them online, not hinder them.
