Developing Your Site With SEO In Mind

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

I don't want to knock developers because we need them. There are some things that search engine optimization experts just aren't qualified to handle. A good developer is a huge asset to any company, large or small. But I have noticed that many developers do not give a moment's thought to SEO. And for the most part it is due to the way they are trained. That's why I was intrigued by reading about a web developer who discovered the world of SEO. I found the story to be quite riveting, actually. And it's the perfect testimony for the importance of optimization in your website development. A/B Testing Vs. Multivariate Testing

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Testing your landing pages is one of the most important parts about being an effective online marketer. You should be testing constantly. But there are different types of tests. You can run A/B tests or multivariate tests and which one you use on your site depends on a number of factors. A/B testing is when you have two pages, or two elements on the same page, that you want to test side by side. For instance, let's say you have a landing page that currently converts at 5.5%, but you think you can increase that by changing your headline. So you rewrite the headline and test the new headline against the old headline. This is an A/B test. After a predefined number of page views for CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

What’s A Good Conversion Rate?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Before you start to think about search engine optimziation, I always recommend that the content and structure of a website is built with conversion elements. When it comes to conversion rates, they're not all created equal. I have seen conversion rates for clients over the years as high as 15% and as low as 0%. It's one thing to say that 2% is good, but it's quite another to say that 2% is good for landing pages within such-and-such industry. In truth, 2% is not bad for conversion rates. If you can snag a 2% on any of your landing pages then you are doing pretty well. But what did you have to do to get to that? If 2% is your starting point CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Optimize Your Web Pages With Website Optimizer

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Google is constantly adding new offerings to help webmasters better optimize their websites and increase their conversions. One tool I'd recommend for any website, beginner or advanced, is Website Optimizer. If you have a Google Webmaster Tools account then using Website Optimizer is a cinch. Even better if you use Google AdWords and/or Google Analytics. Website Optimizer is designed to allow you to test different versions of a landing page to see which one converts better. If you use it correctly then it will do that well. The first step, of course, is to choose the page you want to test. The next step is to create alternate versions of your web page. It's important to note that you can test more than one variable so if CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Have You Upgraded WordPress Today?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Website security is every bit as important as search engine optimization. After all, if your website is unsecure and gets hacked then you'll likely have much bigger problems on your hands than low rankings. If your site is built using a CMS, or WordPress blogging software, then upgrading is very important. You could very well find your website hacked and taken off line. Mashable sent out a stern warning before the weekend to everyone using WordPress to upgrade to 2.8.4 as soon as possible. That's actually a good warning. I know someone who was on WordPress 2.7.1, which isn't all that old of a version, and their site was hacked. Just as the blog post says, the hacker set up an invisible Admin account CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Optimize Your Website For Mobile Search

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

If you're waiting for the optimal time to create a mobile version of your website, now is the best time. If you do it now you'll likely be ahead of your competition. When the wave hits, it will hit big and you don't want to be behind. Search engine optimization for mobile search is a lot like it is for normal search. Domain age will make a difference. But for mobile search your domain age will likely be tied to your mobile site, not your entire website. If you create a mobile subdomain then it should act as a standalone website on any mobile device with a browser. Another thing to think about when optimizing your website for mobile search is to keep your code CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Google Wave To Roll Out Its Beta Testing

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

I somehow missed this announcement, but Google Wave will open up its beta testing this fall for schools and businesses. By schools, I presume we're talking about universities. But there is also another requirement for beta testers besides being a business or a school. Again, I'm presuming that "businesses" is a reference to large businesses, not Mom and Pop. The second criteria for being an early beta test of Google Wave is that you've got to be an official Google App user. So if you are a registered Google App user and a part of a university program or big business then you'll get to be one of the guinea pigs for Google Wave. They hope to open up beta testing for everyone next CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
