2 Social Integrations From Google

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Watch this video and you'll hear the two social integrations that Google recently announced. After you've watched the video I'll comment on them briefly. First, Twitter will soon be integrated into Google's search results. Of course, you knew that by now. But I think it's interesting that Twitter will be integrated into the universal search results while the company is rolling out its new "social search". Isn't that ironic? Now, moving on to the "social" search. This is going to get sticky because in order to take advantage of the social search you have to opt in. That's going to pose a privacy issue for many people. Yet, it seems like a good product. You'll be able to search through your network of friends to find relevant CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Twitter for Small Business – Only 9%

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Here's an interesting number - 9%. Are you a part of it? According to Small Business Newz, only 9% of small businesses are using Twitter for marketing. But, 32% more are planning to incorporate social media into their marketing plans. Twitter will no doubt be included in that. You should consider it too. There are more reasons than meet the eye that a small business owner would want to use Twitter in their marketing plans. One very good reason is for search engine optimization purposes. And, no, I'm not talking about some new link building scheme. I AM talking about a new way of getting ranked in the search engines for your important content. As noted yesterday, both Bing and Google are in discussions with CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Why Low Quality Links Are Not A Problem

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Many new webmasters, when they find out that back links are good and that high quality back links are better, try to figure out what they should do about low quality back links. The answer is, nothing. Back links rarely hurt you even if they're from bad neighborhoods. The search engines know you can't control what other website owners do on their websites. A site that links to you links to you for its own reasons - or its owner's reasons. That's not your problem. Google, and other search engines, will determine whether each link pointing to your site is a good link or not and credit you accordingly. You will not be penalized for bad links to your site, usually. Now, if you link to bad CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Improving Search at The Speed of Light!

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Recent developments at Google and Bing have got me thinking. The 3 major search engines (yes, there only 3 major search players at this point) really are stretching themselves to improve search, make the Web a better place, and beat each other at the competitive game. To some extent, too, Yahoo! is giving it everything it's got to stay in the game, however in a different kind of way. With all of these improvements going on, you'd better be thinking ahead about five years. It's really too difficult to think any further ahead than that and if you don't think that far out then the competition already has you beat, because they are thinking that far out. Continuous improvement is a business necessity in CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Bing Is Revolutionizing Search of Twitter

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

We've discussed before the importance of Twitter for search and for the search engine optimization industry. Bing is ranking tweets and is in discussions with Facebook to incorporate its social media content in search results. No doubt that Google will follow this act. But the interesting thing about how Bing is ranking tweets is that your Twitter followers can be a ranking factor. This from WebProNews: The answer is: Bing weighs tweets by follower counts. "If someone has a lot of followers, his/her Tweet may get ranked higher," says Bing. "If a tweet is exactly the same as other Tweets, it will get ranked lower." Can you say Twitter follower spam? This really does look like a search gaming haven for some people and it provides a CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Is Yahoo! The Center Of Your Online Life?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

When Yahoo! brokered a deal with Microsoft to let the corporate monolith handle the former's search functions, both companies were criticized all over the Web. Of course, there were the kudos as well. Some people thought the deal didn't go far enough while others thought it went too far. But the bottom line, for Yahoo! at least, was could it be profitable? The answer is in. But I have one question: What does this little sentence mean? "With new products like Yahoo! homepage, our brand revitalization campaign and expansion in the Middle East through Maktoob.com, our execution is improving and we're focused on what we do best - being the center of people's online lives." Yahoo! has always defined itself as a Web portal. To many people, CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
