Is Keyword Research An Ongoing Activity?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Is keyword research a one-time event or an ongoing concern? You might think it's something you do today and forget about once your site is built, but it's not. I'll tell you why. What's popular today may not be popular next year. Searchers could be hot on to a particular search phrase one day and move on to another search phrase a month later. I've seen it happen. As a for instance, today searchers may flock in droves to Google "local SEO" but 30 days from now the number of searches for that phrase could drop by 200% while searches for "geotargeted SEO" could rise by 300%. The numbers may change, 150% and 250%, but the principle is still the same. People's search habits are about as CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Plan Your Viral Marketing Campaign Carefully

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

You've likely heard about viral marketing. That's where you tell a couple of people about something and they tell a couple of friends who also tell a couple of friends and the message is carried on ad infinitum with each level of messaging spread further and wider than before. It's about like network marketing with the multi-level payout structure. But if that's the way it works, can you plan a viral marketing campaign? Isn't such marketing better left to its own devices? There have been marketers and search engine optimization folks who successfully planned and managed a viral marketing campaign and saw great results. The key is in the understanding of human nature. If you know what motivates people to act and tell their CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Is Base64 Code Bad For You?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Base64 code derives its name from the fact that it uses only 64 characters. MIME-based (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions), Base64 uses only A-Z, a-z, 0-9 and the "+" and "/" symbols. That's 64 characters, hence the name. In and of itself, Base64 is not bad. It has its practical uses. One of its widest applications is in embedding binary files such as images within scripts. This allows a coder to include the photo on the page rather than in an external file. It is also used to store passwords for encryption. The problem with Base64 encoding is its strengths are also its weaknesses. Because it is useful in obfuscating passwords and embedding binary files within scripts, it is easy for spammers and malware distributors to use as CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

What Is Online Reputation Management?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Online reputation is more than monitoring to see who mentions your name. It's really a combination of three things: Traditional marketing Public relations Search engine optimization Where these three online disciplines intersect has come to be called reputation management. Let's dissect what that means. Here is a very helpful video that I found about online reputation management: In a traditional marketing sense, reputation management involves the monitoring of your brand and the defense of it through advertising and customer relations. In other words, you are meeting the market in the public square. Your "best foot forward" is your reputation and how you manage that foot says a lot about what others will say about you or perceive you. Public relations is the discipline of courting media to ensure that you have a CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Link Buying – An Important Thing To Know

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Gab Goldenberg has an interesting post on 101 ways to buy text links. Understand that I don't endorse any of these methods. It is your decision as to whether or not to purchase text links. You know how Google treats those links. Of course, what Google doesn't know wont hurt you. But will you take a chance? In fact, here is exactly what Google has to say about link buying and paid link: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66736 The fact is, link building is link building. You can do it the organic way or buy your links and the effect, from a search engine optimization standpoint, is the same. With one proviso: It is done the right way. But buying text links is fraught with its dangers. That doesn't CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Are Hackers Friendly People?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

When it comes to getting hacked, you might think that the guys who did that to you are real bad people. Not necessarily. It could be your pharmacist or the good looking guy next door. You know, the one who took you to dinner last weekend at the five star restaurant? You didn't know he was a computer genius, did you? Well, he may not be. He could just have enough money to pay the real genius to hack your website and divert your traffic to his online vialis candy machine. Let's face it. You don't know who the people are that are hacking your website. They could be some terrorist cell in Albania, some family in Russia trying to keep food on the table, or the CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Why Is Duplicate Content No Big Deal?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Duplicate content "issues" still get a lot of airplay, except they aren't really issues. For one thing, you can have two pages on your website with exactly the same content and your site won't be penalized. That's a common misconception. (unless of course your content is a standard reseller or partner content, ecommerce websites that resell products often encounter this). What may happen instead is that you'll get inbound links to both pages, which waters down your link building. Suppose each page gets 50 inbound links. That's a total of 100 links that could go to benefit one page. You want to stop that. There are two ways you can deal with that kind of duplicate content issue. You can redirect one of those pages to CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
