Starting Jan 2010, (if you have been keeping up to date)Google has stated that Social media will be playing a more important roll in their new formats and will continue to do so. Especially with the new 'caffeine' program they are rolling out where you can Google active feeds. It may not have the same weight, but as things evolve in the SERP's and changes in algorithms progress; I think anyone who is staying ahead of the curve will stand to reap large benefits.
