Every Website Has Goals (or it Should!)

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

There are many ways you can change things on your website in order to improve the overall user experience. For most people the goal of their website is usually to improve their bottom line but if you take a step back and think about what your business does you might find that your website should have many other goals as well.

Here are some of the common website goals (although yours might be different!):

1. Education: If you are in an industry that requires a great deal of industry or product knowledge your website should also act as an educational tool. If you construct it right and you are in an industry that might not have too many educational tools you could really attract some new users to your website. Over time people will consider your company as an authority in the industry.

2. Community: Having your website being part of the community is important in today’s business world. People everywhere want to be part of a community now regardless of what your business is or what you are selling. People like to feel like they are part of something and being part of a business that is active in its own community is important for some people. It is all part of building the brand online which being part of a community will speed up that process.

3. Leads or Sales: If it is leads that you want through your website your site needs to be set up for it. People don’t just look around on a website and try to hunt for a lead form. If it is not clear and visible for the web user they will simply leave without realizing that you are a service provider. Some will search for a contact page but for the most part that will not even happen. Have lead forms visible on each important page.

4. Phone Calls: If the goal of your website is to receive phone calls than you have to have the phone number visible. It needs to be in more than just one place on your website, it needs to be visible at the top, middle and bottom of each page if that is your goal.

Take the time to take a step back and think about what the goals of your business are. Each website should have some sort of goal associated with it and your website should be structured around that goal.
