What Does An SEO Mindset Look Like?
Search engine optimization is one of those things that a person really needs to embrace if they want to accept everything that comes along with it. Things like process, time, and patience that are needed to get the job done are all part of having an SEO mindset. Since search engine optimization is not a one-time step and does vary from website to website, a serious mindset needs to be taken when you approach an SEO process to any website. Whenever something is distributed or released for public viewing you have to ask yourself and wonder, “what can be done to that material so that it gets a bit more exposure?”

An SEO mindset tends to have these attributes:
Patience: Since search engine optimization and marketing oftentimes require some waiting in order to see results, patience is a very important aspect. Scrambling around wondering when things are going to work is not the right approach and will only drive you crazy. Not to mention you will probably think that SEO doesn’t work.
Embracing the Process: You have to embrace the process in order to really understand why things happen the way that they do. You have to realize that search engine optimization goes much further than just website rankings.
Ability to Morph: The search engine marketing industry tends to throw a lot of punches into the spotlight and those who understand the concepts of search engine marketing tend to roll with the punches with much greater ease.
Efficiency is Key: When you break down search engine optimization you will realize that it is nothing more than just the process of being efficient and smart with everything you do online. Good solid efficiency is the key to being successful in the search space when it comes to distributing your marketing material.
Search engine marketing and optimization really is a mindset and you must be able to embrace all aspects of the process. You have to realize that search engine marketing is a slow moving journey with virtually no end in sight.

Well yes SEO may be considered as a mindset, but then so can almost anything else.
What I would agree with is that SEO is not limited to a series of predetermined steps, but each campaign should be tailored to each sites needs with the ultimate objective of helping the webmaster to reach his goals.
Thanks for reading Mel and your comment!
Exactly, every business and website is 100% different, but having the correct SEO mindset is the best place to start (when you start and build your SEO program).
Take Care,
Nick
IMHO – Patience is the most important mind set. It is also the one I wish I could teach my clients.
Even though all our SEO contracts are for a minimum of six months, I have clients that call at least once a week asking why one term or the other is not moving up in the SERP.
Oh yeah, I’ll agree that patience is the big key. You can make the improvements and changes to a site but there is no rushing Google. They will visit your site when their bots are good and ready and they will move your site up or down based on their formula and little you can do about it. The best mindset to have is to understand that SEO is a marathon. If you plan on being in business for a long time you need to view SEO as a long term process. It’s never over.
Mindset or perseverance?
Work hard and work on your SEO daily. Keep at it and find new ways to promote your site, anything you can do to advertise or promote a site online will help eventually- But you can`t really rush Google. If you`re in a hurry to see results make sure you make a site map and give it to Google so they can index your site. This works for me, but don`t give them a new site map every time you add a page or you`ll be punished for wasting their time.
That`s all I got on this right now.
Thanks Nick
Have a great day!
Hi Mark,
Thanks for reading and your comment! You are 100% correct, Google/SEO can not be rushed!
Take Care,

Hi Nick,
I am very new to SEO. But this blog makes sense to me. To take baby steps is all we need to do and keep patience. Hope to learn more soon.
Thanks for the write-up.
Have a nice day!
Hello Nick,
We agree. SEO is a slower process and it takes time. If client is looking for instant visitors he can opt for PPC. Considering the fact that PPC is expensive and short term while SEO is comparatively cheaper & long term natural way of acquiring visitors. Because of the competition in the market, clients think that this is a quick process, so it is our job to explain them how SEO works. First adhering to Google guidelines we optimize website and then Google crawlers index and check with its algorithm & rank them. This process takes 3-6 months according to website size and niche. Working on the website daily and following SE guidelines will surely help website to naturally rank higher.
Great points!
I agree that perseverance is key to being a successful seo. However, this goes beyond on/off page optimization and waiting for results. As we gain experience (over time), and we adjust to different algorithms (and sometimes huge ranking changes), it is important to learn how to THINK like a search engine. Ponder the dramatic changes we’ve endured since Caffeine came out through the recent Farmer/Panda updates. In an 18 month period, things have really changed! If we study these changes, apply the remedies we’ve learned, and build a knowledge base around them…we are more effective, confident and most importantly…VALUABLE. Ok I know I’m going to get dinged for all caps and put in the sand box for this post.
