An Advanced Keyword Research Tool You Can’t Live Without

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

A lot of people aren’t aware that Google has an advanced keyword research tool. The know about the external keyword research tool – and you should know about that one. But if you are running PPC campaigns (and even if you aren’t), you should be aware of the advanced keyword research tool and know how to use it.

Google’s advanced keyword research tool is located at this addresss: http://www.google.com/sktool

The way you use this tool is to type in a single keyword and hit the Find Keywords button. It’s best to use this tool after you’ve done all of your keyword research using your other tools and when you are ready to start your search or PPC campaign. Type in what looks to be your most profitable keyword. Then search.

Here’s what the tool does for you: It suggests related keywords, but these keywords are based on actual searches, unlike Google’s External Keyword Tool. Also, you get a better feel for what the competition for that keyword is actually like. And if you are running a PPC campaign then Google recommends the minimum bid you should make to get a decent quality score. Keep in mind, however, that quality scores are based on a variety of criteria so you may actually have to make a higher bid, but the suggested bid is a good place to start.

It’s a really simple tool, but not many online marketers know about this one. The savvy ones do, but if you are new at it then Google’s advanced keyword research tool is an essential element to your success.

Thanks for posting this and helping to spread the word about the new Google keyword tool. We have been quite impressed with the data, accuracy and filter options, something they’ve needed for quite awhile now that was lacking in the Adwords external tool. We have been using WordTracker and Wordze for quite some time, but now we mostly use this Google tool and one we developed in-house. Our tool is now offered free on our company website, thought maybe some readers here would want to check it out too. We encourage feedback or suggestions so let us know what you think.
