Although many people know the term “pinging” to be a blog related term due to the popularity of blogging, the term is widely used in the networking/Internetworking/web hosting arena as a way to send a digital message to check on the health of a device/node. In fact, some techies still use terms like “ping me” when referring to asking someone to send them a message via IM or other technical device.
