Why Blogging Is Good Business

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

A recent survey shows that 75% of businesses believe that a company blog is the most useful social media for their business. There is a good reason for that. No. 1, a blog allows you to communicate directly with your customers. But there is one thing that can make your company blog an even better lead generation tool. Write a blog without this one thing and you might increase your business. Write a blog for your company and include this one thing and you are almost guaranteed to increase your revenues. So what's that one thing? Search Engine Optimization. Yes, I'm talking about search engine optimizing your blog posts. If you optimize each blog post that you write for your company for specific keyword phrases then CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

The Google Knol Pluses And Minuses

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Does Google favor Knol pages over all other content? Matt Cutts says "No". There is a common conception that any time Google rolls out a new product that it will favor its own product at the expense of all competition within its search engine rankings. That's understandable but it isn't always true. I think it is true of products like YouTube and Blogspot. I say Blogspot because it's such a high-spam neighborhood that any other neighborhood with the same level of spam would likely get banned from Google. Nevertheless, how many Blogspot blogs rank in Google's SERPs every day? Case closed. YouTube is a little bit trickier because it is actually a very valuable and highly trafficked website. And it has so little competition chasing CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Why Wikipedia Is Kicking Britannica’s Ass

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Jason Lee Miller knocked my socks off with this article on Encyclopedia Brittanica's president Jorge Cauz's disrespect for Wikipedia's democratic nature. And, I must say, he's right on the money. This paragraph from the article sums it up succinctly: ”In order to compete with Wikipedia in the Google SERP, Britannica needs to build up inbound links. If content is locked up behind the paid content walls, people will be much more likely to link to other websites with free content (such as that available on Wikipedia).” Thanks Heather Hopkins of Hitwise. Cauz has a point when he says that Wikipedia's information is less reliable than Britannica's, but the problem for Britannica is that Wikipedia is free. And no one is going to link to information that CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Should You Use “Click Here” As Anchor Text?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Google "Click Here" and right at the number 1 spot you'll find the pages for the Adobe Reader download. Go the page and the words "click here" are nowhere to be found. How is that possible? It's called anchor text. Thousands of websites link to that page using the anchor text phrase "click here". That anchor text has caused the Adobe download page to rank exceptionally well for that phrase. But how many people actually search for the phrase "click here" and how many do so looking for Adobe Reader? My guess is not that many. This little exercise should illustrate the power and importance of inbound link anchor text. That's why we've devoted so much time to the CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Happy MLK Day From SEOJ

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Everywhere I look today I see two things: Barack Obama and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It truly is a day of rejoicing and celebration. Tomorrow, the nation will celebrate a historic event in the first black man taking the highest office in the land. The cool thing about search engine optimization is that it doesn't discriminate. We may have a history of discrimination in the U.S. but the search engines have no such history. Good optimization works for one man as well as it does for another man without consideration for race, creed, religion, nationality, gender, sexual identification, or country of national origin. If you do it right then the system works for you. If you fail, you fail according to your own shortcomings. Is that CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Use AdSense To Optimize Your Web Pages

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

One way to tell if your web pages are optimized for the keywords that you want them to be optimized for is to put AdSense ads on those pages. AdSense is placed on your web pages by Google based on the keywords that the search engine robots finds in close proximity to the ads. That does not necessarily mean that each ad will be relevant to all the content on your web page. But if you place AdSense units on several different sections of your web pages and check on them at different times of the day, you'll find some very telling stories. No. 1, if every AdSense ad on your page is non relevant to the content that you want to be found for then CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
