Is Article Marketing Dead?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

(Source) Article marketing has been considered a useful method of promotion on the Internet, since the very early days of the Internet. By writing an informative article, writers have been able to get their sales message read by millions of online consumers, through their resource box that follows their articles. Until 2005, the whole point of article marketing was for the purpose of attracting huge numbers of readers as a result of the articles being published in ezines that had a large reader base. In my book, that's still the purpose of article marketing. I think it's a sad testament to the state of the Internet that people do not see this value. Article marketing practically died overnight when late night gurus masquerading as firecrackers CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

What Link Structure Should I Use For Multiple Company Blogs?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

NameCritic had a good question. How do you interlink your blogs without the search engines counting your links as reciprocal? Well, it's not as difficult as you may think. There is more than one way to skin a mountain lion (Raaaah!). Let me explain this with an illustration: You have Blog A, Blog B, and Blog C, then your website. That's four potential sites to link to and from. We'll say Blog A is in a subfolder on your website's domain, so it's really got the same address as your website. That's the way the search engines will see it, anyway. Blogs B and C have their own unique URLs and each one covers a slightly different topic related to your website's theme with no cross CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

How To Ensure Article Readers Can See Your URL

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

When you write your author resource box for article marketing, be sure to include two links. The first link should be the URL of the landing page you want your visitors to go to. The second link should be anchor text, that is, an important keyword phrase that serves as a link. Here's what the two links will look like: http://www.searchengineoptimizationjournal.com Search Engine Optimization Journal The reason you want to do it this way is because many e-zines are text only. That is, they are published without graphics when your article is published the anchor text link will not be activated. Some html publishers will not go through the trouble to ensure that hyperlinks are activated in the resource box. If that happens then you still CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

When Buying Links, Focus On Targeted Traffic

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

When it comes to buying links, be wary. Google has announced that it will not count paid links. What that means is, if it is obvious that a link is a paid link then it is likely that Google will discount it. That's not necessarily a penalty. You won't lose PageRank for buying links, but if you pay for a link and Google doesn't count it then you have effectively thrown your money out the window. In linking strategies, Google is the toughest of all the search engines but you can bet that what Google implements into its algorithms will eventually be copied by the other players, so watch out. A better strategy is to purchase a link for its traffic value. This is better for CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

What Is – And Is Not – A Paid Link

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

In the end, I suppose Google is not going to penalize the Source or Target websites for those links, but they will nullify the value of the individual links in the Google algorithms. Cutts suggested and implemented the "rel=nofollow" a while back as a tool webmasters could use for the purpose of identifying links for which the webmaster did not want to pass PageRank. The only thing that Google's algorithm will actually do to links identified as rented or paid links is that it will treat those links as "rel=nofollow's". If Google succeeds in their quest, the webmaster buying the links will be throwing away his or her money, if they are buying placement on a webpage solely for the purpose of influencing PageRank. Matt Cutts Clarifies Google’s Paid Links Policy

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Google's Matt Cutts finally responded to the Net's profuse sweating over the paid links controversy. It's a rather long post and he simply updated the post that started it all back in April. He does clarify a few things: The primary concern is "clean and relevant" search results Google is mainly concerned with links that try to game the search engines PageRank stats Google is taking precautions that prevent one website owner from hurting another by enticing them to buy a link and then reporting them Paid links for traffic are not the concern and shouldn't be affected Affiliate links and directory links should not be affected If you were worried that Google was trying to turn webmasters into spies against each other, I think Matt put that concern to CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

When Link Building, Don’t Worry About Percentages

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Reading this article on SiteProNews reminds me of the Geico commercials you see on TV. Call me a caveman, but here's my response, "Uh, what?" Let's break this down. The writer starts off by saying there is some sort of link building "constellation" that is ideal for a link building campaign. Far out, man. Like, you mean, Pluto is still a planet? I'm not quite sure what he's getting at, but the logic is murky at best and appears in the night sky as a streaming array of lights much like the Milky Way. In essence, that SEO is spaced out, dude. 1. Internal satellites - 10% of total links These are internal links, particularly links on sub domains. The suggested examples are subdommains of the main domain CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Is Deep Linking To Another Website Legal?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

I'm not going to discuss the entire article, but there was a great article this morning on SiteProNews. The article discussed 12 laws bloggers should be aware of. It was a well-researched article and I highly recommend anyone involved in blogging read it even though I agree with every word of it. I would like to talk about one of those laws that has some stark importance to all of us. It's called deep linking. The author of the article recommends: 1. NEVER claim that a page or site is your work unless it actually is. 2. ALWAYS clearly distinguish between your work and someone else’s. 3. CONSIDER that deep linking is a pretty well-established blogging practice, CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Google Bombs Are Proof That Link Building Works

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

For example, Rand Fishkin, one of the most respected people in the industry, urged his readers a few days ago to manipulate search engine rankings for the phrase "Greatest Living American" to make Stephen Colbert the number one result. What's worse is that he offered a shot at an $80 dollar reward (a 2-month subscription) to the participants. It's called a Google Bomb, and SEOmoz didn't invent it. Last year Google changed its algorithms to kill Google Bombs - well, the negative ones any way. After thousands or millions of websites linked to the White House website with the anchor text keywords "miserable failure," Google took decisive action and disengaged the Google Bomb, offering a statement that future Google Bombs wouldn't be possible. Paid Links: Matt Cutts’ Ridiculous Solution To A Problem Created By Google

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Matt Cutts sometimes has some really kookie ideas: - Sign in to Google’s webmaster console and use the authenticated spam report form, then include the word “paidlink” (all one word) in the text area of the spam report. If you use the authenticated form, you’ll need to sign in with a Google Account, but your report will carry more weight. - Use the unauthenticated spam report form and make sure to include the word “paidlink” (all one word) in the text area of the spam report. Word to Matt: OK, this is a really bad idea for several reasons. First, Google got the ball rolling on making links valuable in the first place. Remember? It was the first search engine to place significant importance on back links. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
