There are some great metrics plug-ins for popular blog scripts. Metrics is a great way to give you further insight into what is going on in your blog, especially if you are not the only person writing. Metrics programs will give you all sorts of useful information relating to your site. If you want to know how many words your writers have written, or how well they converse with their audience, check the metrics. Metrics can help you to identify your key writers.
As a general rule, if you are running a blog as a full time enterprise and have more than one writer, then you should definitely consider metrics. Even if you are the only writer, metrics might be worth taking a look at. If nothing else it gives you feedback of what you are doing on your site.

If you truly want to be successful online then you need to understand and employ metrics. Website metrics is simply measuring your traffic, conversions, and other website statistics. But you need to know what statistics are important.
Page views and time on site are two important metrics that you’ll want to pay attention to. That is, how many pages do your visitors view on your website on average and how much time do they spend on your website?
Realize that there are some things you can’t control. But there are other things that are well within your control and I highly suggest that you focus on those things that are controllable from a business standpoint. For instance, average sales price is one thing you can control. If you don’t set your price just right then you’ll lose sales. Other things that are well within your control are profit margin, overhead expenses, conversion rate, number of visitors, and price you spend for each visitor. You can control those factors to some extent.
One website metrics system that I like to use and which I recommend is WebPosition 4. With WebPosition 4 you get a 30-day free trial, which will allow you to analyze your reports and to see what value the metrics can bring to your business plan. WebPosition 4 allows you to target the search engines better with the right keywords, report your rankings, optimize your web pages, submit your URLs to the search engines, and analyze your conversions. These are all things you’ll need to do in order to be successful online. I highly recommend WebPosition 4.
