Famous / infamous Googler Matt Cutts is invited webmasters to think like a blackhat search engine optimization expert. In the video I'm about to share with you he shares his insight into the causes of spam blight, which he defines as what is left behind after the spam is dealt with. If you are an experienced webmaster then you'll still want to watch the video and perhaps you'll be reminded of some things you've forgotten or learn a few new tricks. Some things I like about the video (tips I picked up from) are: Use the nofollow tag on any links on your site to third-party sites you are not CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Will Online Video Change SEO Forever?
Bruce Clay seems to think so: If you don't have video and your competition does, Bruce thinks we're going to see a big shift in rankings. He thinks if the top ten sites don't have video, they may lose their ranking over night. According to popular search engine optimization firm Bruce Clay, Google will be testing video in search results at the beginning of 2009, directly after Christmas. Based on that testing he sees some drastic changes to SEO that will change the way Google SERPs return results - forever. If he's right then it will be much more difficult to spam results in the future and many companies that have succeeded with text-based search these past few years may find themselves stuck on an CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
If Links Are So Good, Why Do We Need Keywords?
Search engines rank web pages using many different criteria. If you analyze ten different web pages that hold the No. 1 position for non-related keywords, you will likely find that they all succeed at different aspects of search engine optimization. Some will excel at link building, others will do better at internal site navigation, and some others will make the best use of keywords. They all hold the top position within their niches. Which one is doing the best job? The fact is, the search engines analyze over 150 different ranking criteria. They all weigh into the ranking algorithms at different weights. To simplify how this might look, let's show a few blind ranking criteria and three different websites along with a number that illustrates how CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
Why You Need A Description Meta Tag
I've often said the most important meta tag is your Title tag and the least important (of the three major tags) is the keywords tag. But in the middle is the Description tag and it's pretty doggone important for your on site search engine optimization. As you know, the Title tag determines the text in your SERP listing that links back to your web page. It's also the verbiage that visitors on your website will see in the top left corner of their browsers. But what is the Description meta tag and what does it do? In a word, the Description tag becomes the snippet that Google and other search engines use to describe your website in the SERP. If you don't include a Description meta CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
WWW Or Non-WWW?
When you go to register your domain name you'll be asked one very important question. Do you want your domain name to include www or not? For search engine optimization purposes it doesn't really matter which one you choose. There are no special benefits to having it either way. Even for marketing and branding purposes, one is about as good as another. Why then do the registrars ask? Well, it's really academic. When a user types in your domain name into their browser then their web brower returns the information for the specific location requested. If your site sits at www.mysite'sname.com and the user types in the domain name with the www, they wont' find your website. They'll likely just get a 404 error page UNLESS CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

301 Vs. 302 Redirects: What’s The Difference?
There are two types of redirects that you need to be familiar with as a webmaster: Permanent redirects and temporary redirects. 301 redirects are the permanent kind and the most often used. 302 redirects are the temporary redirects. Here's when you should use them: 301 Redirect - The permanent redirect is best used when you are redesigning your site and you want all of your URLs on one domain name to point to all of the corresponding URLs on another domain name. For instance, you could redirect all traffic from http://www.mydomain.com to http://mydomain.com and if you use the 301 redirect then you are sending all of your traffic to the new domain name on a permanent basis. Why Site Age Is Important
Many new webmasters wonder why they don't show up in search engine results right away. The reason is quite simple. No one trusts you yet. Before you can build up trust within your target audience, you must first build trust with the search engines. How do you do that? Start with on-page optimization Build links gradually, not all at one time Seek constant improvement Don't buy or sell PageRank Offer a positive user experience Don't just focus on SEO, work on building traffic through equitable and ethical relationships Be consistent Make sure the search engine know you are in it for the long term Search engine optimization is a long-term strategy. There is no short-term get-it-there-quickly solution, nor should there be. Site age is important because if the search engines know that you are in CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
Why SEO Is Such Hard Work
SEO, really good search engine optimization, is not easy. It takes time and patience. You have to do the proper amount of keyword research, narrow down the right keywords and determine which ones you want to target and then design and write the content for the landing pages. It isn't easy. Many companies try to do their own optimization work. If you are one of those companies and you are relying entirely upon your search engine marketing skills to get clients then you might be waiting a long time. That's because ranking each page of your website well in the major search engines is a long-term strategy. It isn't like you can put a website today and rank well for all your key terms next week.
