What Is Reverse SEO and Why It Won’t Work

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Someone recently asked me about “reverse SEO” and whether or not I thought it was a good SEO tactic. I had to be honest and tell them that reverse SEO was not a term I was familiar with (12 years in the Internet marketing and SEO industry and I’m still learning new things!) but that I would look into it and get back to them. Something in my gut was telling me that reverse SEO was probably a grey hat, if not outright black hat, SEO technique. After doing a little research, the way I came to understand reverse SEO is that it’s the process of analyzing the search results (usually done with an SEO software tool) in Google and Bing and then breaking it down CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

The SEO Hierarchy of Needs

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

College consumer behavior classes love to use Maslow's hierarchy of needs as a basis for understanding consumers' motives. The company/product that best meets the four levels (physiological, safety, love and belonging, self worth) of Maslow’s pyramid is going to be the most successful at convincing consumers to act, increasing their own bottom line. The same philosophy can also be applied to SEO; we just need to rename the four needs to correspond to the four major components of any SEO campaign. Our SEO hierarchy of needs looks something like this: Content--> Keyword Research--> On-site Optimization--> Link Building. The bottom of the SEO hierarchy, the foundation that everything else rests upon, is content. In terms of on-site SEO, content refers specifically to page content (although off-site content can CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Yes, EVERY Page Needs to Be Optimized

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

For smaller site owners, this isn’t a terrifying prospect. While the entire optimization process (keyword research, rewriting content, creating Meta tags and descriptions, etc) can take a while from start to finish, a website that only has 50-100 pages isn’t going to have to spend the next month implementing changes. That may not be the case for much larger sites and their owners. For a site with 1,000+ pages (most likely an e-commerce site), on-site optimization is going to take much longer and will have to be implemented over time. Here are a few tips for making sure that every page gets optimized: 1. Check out what pages Google has indexed You can either use the site operator search (site:YourURL.com) right in the Google search or (for more CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Can I Ask You a Quick SEO Question?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

In the world of SEO, there are very few “quick” questions. Sure, I can give you the basic definition of what SEO and SEM are, explain why link building is important and give you a bullet list of blog post topic ideas, but what good is that really going to do for your website? All that information you could learn in ten minutes from the Google Webmaster Tools page on SEO and a few blog posts, but those sources aren’t going to give you any radical insights into how to make SEO work for your site. And neither can I in a ten minute call. In order to answer your “quick” SEO question, I need to ask you ten not-so-quick questions about your marketing and your CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Is Blogging a Necessary Evil?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

I’ve written my share of posts explaining why a business blog is valuable, but some site owners still feel like blogging is just another uphill battle for their business to take on. It’s no easy task setting time aside every day to write a new blog post and then commit to promoting it (essential for success!) once they go live. Every site owner struggles to come up with relevant topics, attract loyal readers and build their reputation as an industry authority. Blogging, as part of an inbound marketing campaign, is an incredibly long term process and it’s very easy to lose faith after investing three months of hard work and not seeing the return you were expecting. Enterprise SEO Best Practice Tips

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

While the rules and guidelines of white hat SEO should apply to every website no matter how big or small it is, getting the SEO ball rolling in a large company is often a lot harder than when working with a small to mid-size company. As an SEO provider, the most challenging part about working with a large company is that it takes forever to get things approved. There is a much larger chain of command to work through and the person I directly report to isn’t usually at the top of that chain. It turns the enterprise SEO process into a very complicated situation very quickly. Here are 4 best practice tips to help streamline your enterprise SEO: 1. You Can’t Win the SEO Race if You Don’t Try

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

For site owners, there is little more frustrating than feeling like you are doing everything with your SEO and search marketing right and finding that the competition is still two steps ahead of you. Even worse is when it looks like the competition is using black hat SEO to dominate the SERPs. You might think to yourself, “What’s the point of my SEO anymore? It’s not working!” Before you throw your hands up in the air and walk away from SEO forever, remember these 3 things: Your competition earned it Your top competitors (providing they used white hate link building techniques) have earned the right to be ranking well in the search engines.
