Happy One Year Anniversary to Search Engine Optimization Journal!

Writing by Nick Stamoulis on Tuesday, 19 of February , 2008 at 4:40 pm

It’s official! It is our one year anniversary! Here at Search Engine Optimization Journal, we pride ourselves on delivering the best search engine optimization information, tips and news to our readers on a daily basis. Since our inception, we have witnessed many changes within the industry and have been impressed at the wide varieties of topics and news we have been able to cover. Throughout our year here, we have seen the major search engines morph, look to merge and the algorithms of each change immensely. Recently we have become more aware of the importance of blog marketing and social media and its rapid growth and value within the industry.

Who would have imagined that two of the top three search engines would possibly have a chance of coming together to compete with the other? The internet marketing industry changes every single day and if you miss a beat, you just may lose a lot of business. By posting these blogs, not only are we educating our readers but we are also educating ourselves as we research these new trends and learn the news that is happening each day within search marketing.

In the past year, social networks have become increasingly popular and have assisted in developing the presence of several companies and people online. Just when we believe that we have reached the end of ideas for online promotion, another idea blows the previous one out of the water.

A Year in Review

Listed below are some of the posts we have written that we believe may the most helpful:

We here at Search Engine Optimization Journal have tried to keep up with the Jones’ by providing daily content (twice a day even!) that is relevant to the industry as a whole. Have we done a good job of it? Feel free to let us know by commenting!

Wishing you All the Best in this Festive Season from SEOJ

Writing by Nick Stamoulis on Wednesday, 26 of December , 2007 at 12:13 pm

On the chance that you are not too busy, we would like to wish you all the best for the holiday season. The end of year is a special time not just for those who celebrate Christmas, but also for people celebrating Eid and Hanukkah. Whatever your celebration, it is a special time of year. You might like to take the time to wish all of your customers a happy New Year.

We will of course continue writing SEOJ throughout the holiday period, so keep checking back each day to find more great articles. In the coming week we are going to focus on a few topics that we have not covered a great deal here and we will try to keep a mix of topics for people of all experience levels. Remember, everyone has to start somewhere. If something seems to simple or obvious for you, it may not be for someone else. As always, feel free to comment and leave your thoughts and or suggestions.

Over this week, we are going to be looking at some different research techniques. Keyword research will of course be covered, but so too will good old fashioned head in the books (or head to the screen) research. We have a few tips and tricks that we have picked up over the years that can really cut down on your research time. Research posts will start from tomorrow, so if you haven’t already, subscribe to SEOJ.

SEOJs 11 Most Commented On Blog Posts

Writing by Nick Stamoulis on Sunday, 25 of November , 2007 at 2:36 am

After 410 posts on Search Engine Optimization Journal, I thought I’d go back and take a look at some of my most commented on blog posts. I wanted to put together a top 10 list of blog posts that have attracted the most comments. I started off counting blog posts that had at least 4 comments. After surpassing 15 popular blog posts I dropped those with only 4 comments and started focusing on posts with at least 5 comments. Again, I went over 20 posts and ended up dropping all the 5. Below are the top 11 blog posts - those SEOJ blog posts with 6 or more comments.

When I survey this list I notice three things. First, all of these blog posts are after June 2007 despite the fact that I started this blog in March 2007. That just goes to show that there is a time value to SEO. Older posts are not necessarily as popular as the newer posts. They likely received less traffic when they were new than the newer posts received when they were new. That accounts for the increase in popularity among those posts in June and after.

The second thing I notice about this list is that the blog posts that attract the most comments are the controversial ones. Humor doesn’t get me many comments. But make a stand on something that someone is likely to disagree with and you are almost assured a good number of comments.

Thirdly, 6 of the 11 blog posts were written in August or later. 10 of 11 were written in July or later. This could be an indication that my skills are improving. What do you think?

Thanks Top Rank!

Writing by Nick Stamoulis on Sunday, 21 of October , 2007 at 8:37 am

Big List from Top RankI’m honored. TopRank has called me “one of the best blogs on the Internet.” I don’t know what his criteria is for saying that, but it’s an honor worth mentioning and I’d like to thank the Top Rank Blog for giving me the mention. I’ll do my best to continue living up to that expectation.

According to Top Rank, I write about SEO specifically. I don’t dispute that. But I also have blogs on other topics. Maybe he doesn’t know that. Here are links to some of my other blogs and perhaps one of them could win a similar honor (our hopes):

If you want an easy way to remember that, just think B-SLOPE.

And more are on the way!

Once again, thanks to Top Rank Blog for the mention.
