How Much SEO, How Much Social?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

It's pretty evident we now live in a social Web. I guess some people might call that Web 2.0. Whatever you want to call it, it exists in various formats that end up looking and smelling like SEO and social media. Just about every website can be characterized as a percentage of each. But is there an optimal percentage? Ideally, you'll build your website reputation on some percentage of both search engine optimization and social media, but how much of each depends on several factors such as who you are, the niche you serve, your individual goals, the needs of your customers, etc. But it is absolutely certain that you don't want to forget the SEO. No matter how much social media you employ, optimziation is a CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Social Media Marketing Not Influencing Shoppers – That Could Be Good News

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Marketing Pilgrim has published a post reporting that purchasers are not being influenced by social media marketing. You could look at the numbers and feel that social media marketing was not worth the time. Of course, there is an entirely different angle that should be looked at. There are two lines from the post that had me thinking: Fewer than 5% of consumers age 18-34 “regularly turn to these sites for guidance on purchase decisions” on various product categories. and that very, very few people think that social media influences their purchase decisions This may be true. Buyers may not be looking for guidance before buying and they may feel social media has had no influence. This doesn't mean it's true. When you consider that most social media CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

What Will Happen To SEO In An Age Of Twitter?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Twitter has created quite a stir. Many Internet marketers are content to treat it like other methods of social media marketing. But Twitter isn't Facebook or LinkedIn. Is it its own animal and is like no other. And only a fool would consider a real search engine optimization tool. While one can perform some limited optimization related functions through Twitter, there is much that cannot be done and likely will never be available to SEOs and webmasters looking for an alternative to spam. Twitter is a powerful tool, to be sure. Many SEO experts don't even understand it and try to stear clear altogether. Others swear by it. But I suspect that most use it to one degree or another while continuing to build their CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

If there is any question that video will not be a major part of doing business online in the future then let this announcement from Google about the integration of YouTube and Analytics be a lesson. Are You Doing Forum Marketing The Right Way?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

There are probably as many ways of doing forum marketing or thinking about forum marketing as their are people doing it. But the question begs to be asked: Are you doing it the right way? One way that has been taught by many search engine optimization consultants is to go into a forum and start posting links so that you can get link juice. I know this is still taught because I see it in so many forums that I participate in. But is it effective? I think the best way to do forum marketing is to start off not posting any links at all. Even forgo the signature link for awhile until you build some credibility within the community. Why do I say that? Because at CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

URL Shorteners Are Not Always Good

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

The purchase of WP.com by Matt Mullenweg has drawn a little - just a little - attention in the press. It is pretty significant considering that URLs this short should not be available at this juncture of Internet history and of course because Mullenweg is the owner-developer of the popular blogging platform WordPress. Ryan Imel wrote a blog post about what Matt and his gang could do with WP.com. One of the suggestions is to use it as an URL shortening service for WordPress.com users. It's not a bad idea except that short URL have one glaring negative about them. The don't pass any link juice to the final destination. Now if you are shortening your URL for Twitter that's a moot point because CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Why Twitter Is More Appealing Than Blogging

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

This morning I blogged about an eMarketer report predicting 37.6 million users by 2013. AdWeek says Twitter had 6 million users last year. Compete.com says there are currently 14 million users in the U.S. Assuming these figures are correct, that's more than 100% growth in a single year for Twitter, whose start up came in 2006. In just 3 years Twitter has gained almost half the number of users that blogging has gained in 10 years. Greg Sterling of Screenwerk estimates that Twitter will have 50 million users by next year. If he's right then there could be more Twitter users than bloggers by the end of 2010, compared to the more conservative estimate of 18.1 million users CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
