Separate Landing Pages For Christmas Specials?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Do you need to set up separate landing pages for your Christmas specials? That’s a good question and like a lot of other good questions the answer is a vaguely defined, “It depends.” In most cases, e-commerce sites don’t need to set up separate landing pages for their Christmas specials, but there may be cases where you want to.

The typical e-commerce site can simply redesign a page and change their logo or wallpaper to a seasonal design and rearrange their shopping carts so that seasonal specials are highlighted clearly. That takes some work, but not as much work as building separate landing pages for items in your shopping cart. If you have thousands of items in your shopping cart, you definitely do not want to build separate landing pages for every single item, especially if you’re only going to use those landing pages for three months of the year and definitely not if using them for just one season.

But what if your Christmas special involves just a few items that you could sell throughout the year and change the design of your landing pages with minor tweaks that reflect the season? In that case, you might build a separate landing page for your Christmas special.

Another way you can do this is to simply build a Christmas special landing page and “nofollow, noindex” it after the season. When the next season rolls around, you can take the “nofollow, noindex” tag out and optimize it for your next special. But, remember, you really only want to do that if your dealing with a few items and not your entire inventory, unless you intend for the Christmas special landing page to be a doorway to your shopping cart for the Christmas season.
