I believe like you – Natural text links in pages throughout your site directing to important things and pages .If people can`t find their way around your site you lose your possible customers pretty fast – they move over to a more well structured site . Footers help me with major pages and keywords i want noticed and putting a text link at the bottom back to the top of each of your pages gives another internal text link.For this link i use the page name.

I do not think blog comments reduce “link juice” but I do think they are a great way to:
- Build Your Brand
- Drive Targeted Visitors
- Help Engage (part of your overall social media efforts)

I do not recommend being spammy (your comment is a good one or being excessive (non-natural/needed).

Thanks for the internal link reminders Nick,
I went on yahoo site exploree and found we only have about 25 internal links total…. a real weak spot.
We don’t have many comment areas on our website, but I am interested in hearing your answer to Chris’s question above. Do links that other people leave in comments subtract from the juice of the website they are posting the comment to?

i totally agree with you as well.
i am a newby, and when i first posted ym site it was generic (no taggs, site map, links…)
but when i included some of nick’s tips
i discovered that my site went from no mention
to #1 on google for my search terms.
of course i was blown away.

Thanks for replying to my question but I have another, do you know if comments are classed as internal links on a page too?

For example if I got over 100 people leaving comments and they all left a link would that be a big no no?

Hi Jason,

Yes, I agree 50 is the max that I would recommend as well. Google webmaster tools recommends less than 100, but I am conservative and would say 50 is a good number of internal links as a max per page.

My agency is telling me 50 internal links per page tops but going upto 100 isn’t a big deal.
