That`s the key - If you do hit that wall, don`t let it get you down and don`t waver. Think of other ways to get links. I like the press release option mentioned above . Another way is to get an previously written article and dissect it more and expand on one of the ideas inside that article (making sure you try to stay close to your niche).

Newspapers like the New York Times allow for comments too. They may be no-follow links (this keeps your link building strategy a little more natural anyway) but Google sees everything and many people do read this publication. I`m sure there are many other highly respected newspapers to leave comments on too.

If your really stuck maybe it`s time to expand your site and it`s scope. This allows for more link opportunities too.
Kind of like you say if you sell baseball gloves maybe you can add baseballs and bats. This gives you an ample more ideas for articles where you can leave links and mention gloves again.

Have a great day Nick

Good points Nick. You left out my favorite link building strategy, press releases. I average up to 800 back links per press release and am usually on the front page of Google for long tail key word phrases in minutes. It is not that hard to find information to write a press release about, perhaps a new product or service, a job opening or new hire, an award received, a charity your business helped, a article you recently wrote, a new facebook page, a positive review......the list goes on and on.
