@walter – If you are going to launch a blog for your business then keep it relevant to the topics related to your business. I highly recommend WordPress blogging platform.

Blogging is a great start, and writing to it often keeps it fresh which the search engines like. However, with brand new blogs you have to do allot of marketing leg work to build traffic and hence links. Don’t you think?

If you don’t have the time to write a Blog every day then relevant unique news is a good alternative. It still brings in-bound links, but has the added benefit of getting your site accepted to Google News and other news aggregators. You can also then send out a newsletter or offer RSS feeds which bring repeat traffic. Adfero DirectNews provide such a service. They can also write in Blog style if you prefer.

its amazing how after adding a blog to my website, I jumped to the front page of google. Dont underestimate this method.
