I often times hear potential clients say that their customers are not online or Twitter won’t help them because search engine marketing is really just a fad. If you take a step back and look at everything that has happened in this country over the last one hundred years you will quickly see that almost everything in life is a fad some just happen to last a little longer than others. Online marketing and search engine optimziation in general are constantly changing and morphing but to avoid marketing your business online because you think the internet might not last long or it is not worth the investment, this is not a wise choice for yourself or your business.
Let’s take a look at the news paper industry for a second. At one point when the printing press really started chugging and turning out newspapers that specific form of communication was the cat’s bag. I would venture out and say that when businesses first starting putting ads in newspapers there might have also been skeptics who claimed newspapers won’t last and their customers don’t read enough for them to justify the money spend on ads. Well newspapers have been here for hundreds of years and still achieving results. The reality is the internet is where the newspapers where over a hundred years ago. The newspapers might be slowing down now but that is an awful long fad if you ask me. The internet is not going away anytime soon and neither are newspapers. More and more technology being developed is done to strengthen and leverage the power of the web. If this internet “fad” lasts a few hundred years would it be a wise choice to get involved now to make your business grow before it reaches the end of its life cycle? Marketing your business through search engine optimization and other various internet marketing efforts is not a fad you as a business want to avoid or delay. Take a look at Facebook and Twitter. These Two websites grew very quickly causing many to raise an eyebrow. The reality is that these two websites alone are generating hefty volume numbers for many businesses large and small. Are they a fad as well? Nobody really knows but right now at present time these two websites can significantly help a website grow in exposure and branding. For websites and businesses to grow they need to visible in front of the masses. Even if the masses are only there for just a short time.
Don’t worry about what internet sources will last and which will not. The important thing is that the internet is here to stay for quite sometime and it is important to market your business through as many channels as possible online. Fad or no fad avoiding search engine marketing and search engine optimziation will eventually lead to your business being completely invisible.
