Google’s goal is to give people the most relevant answers to their queries as quickly as possible. The search engine often makes subtle changes that go unnoticed but has recently launched a pretty big algorithmic improvement to their ranking that impacts 11.8% of queries.
WHAT’S NEW THIS WEEK WITH YAHOO!:
Yahoo! Scientists Explore the “Three Dimensions of Search”
In a recent study, two Yahoo! research scientists paint a detailed picture of the data behind web search. The study addresses the three dimensions of search: “who” is searching, “what” they are searching for, and “how” they are choosing to search.
WHAT’S NEW THIS WEEK WITH BING:
Bing expands Facebook “Liked Results”
Bing is taking its partnership with Facebook to the next level and is making search more social. Recently, Bing extended Liked Results, which promotes links your friends have publicly liked or shared via Facebook, to annotate any of the URLs returned by their algorithmic search results to all users in the US.
